SOME TIPS WHEN MAKING MUSIC ::
.) Be realistic with your music. Resist showing off and trying desperately to get attention.
.) Try and create your own sound.
.) Trends place a date stamp on your music. Turn off the internet for a while and create music from the inside and avoid outside influences. Go on a radio diet.
.) Song structure keeps your music more rememberable.
.) Change your environment or rearrange your setup.
.) If you want to take someone on a journey (if that's your goal) you must give them something familiar.
.) Fame and money do not mix with art. Place it aside and focus on the sound.
.) Avoid buying new gear for inspiration. Realize most of it is marketing, making you feel you need it. You don't. Try "removing" access to gear instead of adding.
.) Be comfortable with your strengths, take advantage of your gifts.
.) Do something "incorrect" or totally wrong. Who is making the rules.
.) Many of us feel we are subject to approval from others. Who cares what people think.
.) Showing your true inner self. I know it's hard to do. We get the feeling if we expose ourself it will never be approved from the outside. Most of this is an illusion. Try not to always be "safe" and make what you want.
.) Let go of everything. Let go of your mechanical thoughts on the way music should be. For one day, try doing everything backwards and sideways.
.) Pretend you already have a million fans, how would you approach it now?
.) Studies have shown, just because something is louder, we think it is better. Try producing a track at really low volumes. Make your track speak through creativity apposed to covering it up with loudness.
.) Shoot for emotion instead of attention. Understand how sensitive human beings are and resist the feeling to constantly hammer something over their head. A single sine wav frequency can grab someone's attention. Respect your craft and access to technology, or it will soon start controlling you.
.) The current time could be your enemy. Think 20 years ago or 100 years ahead.
.) Try making a track without a beat.
